'Door to door'
Situated on the south coast in Cornwall, Looe is a favourite holiday destination with a fine beach, shops, cafes, a working harbour and has a lovely riverside location. We stay at The Portbyhan Hotel which has recently undergone a £1.2 million refurbishment. We operated a 'Mystery Tour' to this hotel in February 2014 and we had some great reports back about the hotel.

We are delighted to be working with this newly refurbished hotel which is situated in an unrivalled position in the heart of West Looe, overlooking all the hustle & bustle of Looe’s working fishing harbour. All of the bedrooms are en-suite and equipped with colour TV, radio, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Following breakfast this morning, we enjoy our excursion which takes us to Polperro where we have some free time to explore. It’s easy to step back in what is largely an unspoilt fishing village. Its beautiful cottages cling to steep hillsides around a small harbour with spectacular views of land and sea, making it an artist’s paradise. Dotted around the village there are several galleries selling work by local artists.
From here we continue to Mevagissey for some free time. Narrow streets and steep valley sides lead down to the centre of the old Mevagissey where the distinctive twin harbour provides a safe-haven for the many fishing boats that land their daily catch. In typical picture postcard style, pubs, cafes galleries and shops cluster around the harbour walls and line the pretty streets.
We return to the hotel in time to relax a little before dinner this evening.

This morning, we visit the traditional fishing village of Port Isaac, home to the TV series Doc Martin. A picturesque village with narrow, winding streets lined with whitewashed cottages that head down to the harbour.
From here, we head down to Padstow, a charming working fishing port surrounded by glorious beaches at the head of the Camel River. Padstow’s harbour is undoubtedly the strongest attraction in town and visitors find themselves drawn to it like a magnet. Fishing and pleasure craft rock side-by-side on their moorings, children fish for crabs from the harbour wall, quayside inns and cafes overlook the calm water.
We return to Looe and the hotel in time for dinner this evening.

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel this morning and then the rest of the day is free to explore the seaside town of Looe. Level streets snake their way to the beach near the town’s banjo-shaped pier passing a mix of shops, many of which are located in buildings dating back from the 16th and 17th centuries. Looe is famous for its food and many eateries in the town serve up award winning fare from fish ‘n’ chips near the river to gourmet menus in smart restaurants perched on the hill overlooking the harbour.
Dinner at the hotel this evening.

The Portbyhan Hotel is situated in an unrivalled position right in the heart of Looe, allowing guests to relish the panoramic views of the vibrant harbour with only a short stroll into Looe town. The Edwards family, who operate an award-winning holiday company in South Wales, purchased the hotel in June 2013 and have since invested over £2.1 Million in a full-refurbishment of the exterior, bedrooms, restaurant, bar and public areas. These renovations, the location and the excellent services that the hotel offers have all contributed to the Portbyhan Hotel recently winning “Best Individual Hotel” at the prestigious National Coach Tourism Awards.
