A Sample Daily Itinerary
The itinerary can be amended to suit you and your members desires, as can the number of days.
Day 1
We enjoy our outward journey making suitable stops en-route to Bridgewater and on to The Mercure Bridgewater Hotel. Your accommodation at the hotel has Evening Meals & Breakfasts included.
Day 2
Today, we travel to Bishops Lydeard for our morning journey on the West Somerset Railway to Minehead. This is true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway and offers a nostalgic ride back in time through lovely countryside. The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, and the buildings of the unique stations are linked by a 20-mile scenic journey.
Following our journey, we have a little time for lunch in the lovely seaside resort of Minehead. There are beaches to explore, a fishing quarter and an historic harbour. Take a walk down the tree-lined Avenue and visit the selection of tea rooms, pubs and independent shops in the town centre.
This afternoon, we continue to Dunster Village, Exmoor’s prettiest medieval village. A fairy-tale Castle perched on a hill, charming shop fronts nestled side-by-side upon cobbled streets, and an ancient packhorse bridge snaking across the River Avill.
Day 3
First stop today is Exeter, a small city that packs a big punch. Pre-dating the arrival of the Romans in AD50, Exeter’s history is rich and long. This is reflected in its fascinating visitor attractions, including free Red Coat Guided Tours, magnificent Cathedral, imposing Roman Wall and beautiful Quayside.
This afternoon, we continue to Exmouth for our included Cruise along the River Exe with delicious Cream Tea. See stunning scenery, wildlife and nature of the nationally renowned Exe Estuary on our cruise from Exmouth Marina, travelling through peaceful waters, up near Powderham Castle and along to where the river opens out into the English Channel on Exmouth’s traditional seafront.
Day 4
After breakfast this morning we visit historic Forde Abbey House & Gardens. Home to the stunning Mortlake Tapestries, woven from the internationally famous Raphael cartoons, now housed in the V&A, the Abbey has a rich and varied history spanning 900 years. Walk in the actual footsteps of the monks, and explore the exquisite interior featured in the latest Hollywood adaptation of ‘Far From the Madding Crowd’. Nominated for Historic Houses ‘Garden of the Year’ award 2019, the garden continues to evolve with sustainability very much at the heart of its aesthetic. An Asian woodland and prairie garden are just a few of the new designs turning the page on the next chapter of the garden.
Next, we travel to Seaton for our included Tram Ride. We travel through 3 miles of unspoilt countryside along the beautiful Axe Valley, travelling alongside the River Exe estuary through two nature reserves giving an unrivalled view of the abundant wading bird life.
Day 5
We enjoy a leisurely breakfast this morning before we head to nearby Glastonbury, possibly the quirkiest town in England, steeped in history, myth and the smell of incense.
We then continue to the City of Wells, with its historic centre, the magnificent Cathedral, and the unique moated Bishop’s Palace. Alongside the popular national coffee shop names are many excellent independent cafes and tea rooms serving nourishing lunches as well as snacks to tide you over.
Day 6
Following breakfast, we leave The Mercure Bridgewater Hotel, and begin our journey home, again making suitable stops along the way.
