Experience Madeira’s enchanting beauty on this shorter-than-usual escape to this fabulously floral island. Take in the lush green region of Galicia and the city of La Coruña. Discover pretty pastel-fronted houses in Oporto and the charming Portuguese capital, Lisbon.

Day 1: Your Door to Door service will transfer you to Southampton to embark Balmoral.

Highlights of the cruise include:

  • La Coruña, Spain, boasts an impressive seafront promenade, beautiful beaches and a host of attractions such as the Domus Museum, the Casa del Hombre and Torre de Hercules – said to be the only Roman lighthouse in existence – which offers sweeping coastal views from the top of its 60 metre high tower. The Paseo Marítimo, a lovely 13km walkway and bike path, runs from the port, around the peninsula and along the ocean beaches.
  • A chance to explore Santiago de Compostela and its UNESCO listed cathedral site.
  • From Leixões, head to Oporto, sitting deep in the gorge of the River Douro and dominated by the two-level Luis I bridge. Head into the heart of Oporto, with its fortress-like Cathedral and the Baroque Church of Clérigos. The historic Ribeira District, where the narrow cobbled lanes wind their way down to the Douro River. Don’t forget to visit one of the many wine cellars for a taste of the tipple named after the city, Port.
  • Funchal, the capital of Portugal's Madeiran archipelago, has a timeless old-world charm. Enhanced by a subtropical climate that fills this 'floating garden' with the year-round colours and perfumes of flowers and fruit. Backed by rolling hills, the town is famous for its harbour, the 17th century São Tiago Fortress, now the Contemporary Art Museum and its world renowned Madeiran wine cellars. Funchal’s parks and gardens are a delight, and a hike through the Laurel Forest nearby is highly recommended.
  • Lisbon, Portugal. Stretched across its seven trademark hills overlooking the River Tagus estuary, Lisbon is a cinematic collection of cobbled alleyways, ancient ruins and white-domed cathedrals. Decimated by an earthquake in 1755, modern Lisbon has been shaped by that eventful day. Flanked by the Ponte 25 de Abril, Lisbon’s many fascinating museums include the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, the National Museum of Contemporary Art, the National Coach Museum and the Carmo Archaeological Museum.
  • 4 days at sea

Day 12:  We disembark in Southampton and meet your Door to Door service home.

Named after the Scottish home of the Royal Family, Balmoral is a classically styled ship exuding a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and a warming, home-from-home feel. Balmoral is the newest and largest ship in the Fred Olsen fleet. There is a range of dining options available to suit all tastes and a fantastic selection of bars and lounges.
